About Us
Tim Harris of Harris Custom Cycles has been involved with mechanical customization and repairs for well over ten years.
He has done all types of customizing and mechanical work. Tim has added another notch to his belt by adding yet, another interesting line of services to his existing business taking him far beyond the normal mechanical shop services, of old.
He decided to venture into the fast paced world of custom bike building, customizing and building other peoples dreams for them.
He also can get your bike painted, chromed and customized to suit your needs.
Take a look at his work on the shop page or stop in to see what a good old southern boy can do with chrome, steel, rubber and a few wires here or there. I think you will be pleased!!!

Project Bike- Bobber on Steroids
Here is the pictorial of a project bike custom build
![]() |
We start off with a well made frame and that is extremely important to any bike project. This is the backbone of the build so it’s not a smart move to let price over quality be an issue. A shitty made frame could result in the whole build becoming a horrible failure. For this particular build I chose a Kraft/Tech rigid frame with 2" added to the down tubes and 1" added to the backbone with a rake of 38 degrees. This combination will give the bike the style and look that I am going for, which is the Bad Ass "Bobber on Steroids". This is a project I have wanted to do for some time, but business has been very good and our customers come first. I will have to slip in some late nights and long weekends working on this project and that will pull me away from my lovely wife and wonderful family a lot. Thank God they understand my passion for creating these monstrous machines and support me 100%, in all that I do. |

The next step is to mockup the drive train. The purpose of this is to assure proper fit and match up of all components. Remember: This is a “one off” build for a one of a kind production (meaning that there will be only one of a kind like this built). The drive train consist of an engine, transmission and the primary. For my engine on this project I chose to use the 113 cubic inch, El Bruto from Ultima which included some extra modifications. This will make our “New Born” Beast scream. For the Tranny I am using a six speed with Andrews gearing. The primary will be enclosed with a Premo Belt Drive and Clutch. |

With the front end chosen for this build and mounted previously we set up the trail. This must be done in order to choose the correct length of front end and raked triple trees if needed. It is VERY IMPORTANT to obtain the proper trail or you will have an ill handling scooter. |

Here, the front wheel is installed. Sometimes we use any style of wheel for mock-up as long as they are the same size & type being used for the build. In this case, these are the wheels I chose for this project but of course this could change by the time the mock-up is completed. I always reserve the right to change things as I go, in order to make the bike an even better creation. |

Here I am installing the rear wheel along with rotor and sprocket which was previously mounted.” Now here is where the fun begins.” |

During the process of this build some of the parts being built or fabricated were not done under the eye of a camera. I do apologize but im sure you’ve heard the old saying “ shit happens “. In this case it was a late solo night for me. I came in the next morning mounted the gas tank that I had finished the night before and was not happy with it. It was just @%&!#^* not what I pictured in my head. So I wasted all night for nothing. On the shelf it goes Maybe I’ll use it on another project . |

Well hell, lets try this again. This time I pulled one off the shelf .This tank is actually an unpainted replacement for a 2001 - 1200 Sportster. I slightly modified it to fit this application. I think this is a choice I can live with. |

Here the rear fender is cut to the desired length. Sometimes I use fender blanks or fabricate it from scratch. In this case I chose a fender blank for the fact that it is the correct width and it follows the line of the tire. Call it cheating if you must. That’s the great thing about building custom monstofertes you can build it any f,,,,king way you want it. |

Here I'm doing a little trimming and shaping. |

Well I guess I might as well let the cat out of the frigin bag and fill you in on the concept of this build. To be honest with you I love building muscle cars, playing around with hot rods, building hot bikes & making horse power. Ooh and chasing hot babes……well, I did in the past anyway. I’m married to one now!!! Bobbers and hotrods came about way back in the day when, the only way you could obtain horse power was by making the vehicle or bike lighter, so they would strip away parts and unneeded components to make them lighter therefore they would go faster. That’s why they would cut fenders or remove them all together. This is where new school & old school come together. A little bit of hotrod a little bit of bobber and a lot of f…king muscle. I will incorporate all of these things into this build. Oh by the way, in the above picture I’m adding a spoiler to the rear fender. |

Here I used actual chain to make the shifter linkage. |
![]() |
made these medallions to accent the oilbag. |

I designed the coil bracket and ignition switch housing to flow with the engine cylinders. Then, sticking with the theme, I laced it with diamond plate. |
![]() |
I say we stay with the 70's drag style. Straight drag bars work for me. Not much fabrication in the handle bar but it does the trick. |
![]() ![]() |
We can't have a 70's hotrod with out racing stripes. These stripes are going to be raised and made from diamond plate. |
![]() |
I finished the stripes out by putting them on the rear fender. |

After mock-up I disassembled the unit and sent it out for paint and powder. Then I reassembled pumped it up with fluids and gas and kind of like old Frankenstein put juice to it and see if I can bring this beast to life. |
